English Teacher Behaves Properly: Tucking In Her Skirt
As a Westerner with a great appreciation for humanistic arts, I take great pride in my role as an English teacher. Whether I'm instructing young children or adults, I understand the importance of leading by example, especially in regards to proper behavior and attire. It is for this reason that I always tuck in my skirt when in the classroom, regardless of how fashionable or comfortable it might be to do otherwise.
Taking Cues from Cultural Differences
Having lived and traveled in many different parts of the world, I've come to understand just how important cultural differences can be. While it may be perfectly acceptable to dress a certain way in some countries, it could be seen as taboo or even offensive in others. Because of this, it's important for teachers – whether they are teaching English or any other subject – to take cues from the culture in which they are teaching. In my case, this means understanding that modesty is highly valued in certain parts of the world, and that tucking in my skirt is one small way to honor that cultural difference.
Setting a Professional Example
Without a doubt, teachers play an important role in shaping the beliefs and behaviors of their students. Whether consciously or unconsciously, students often look to their teachers as role models, and this is especially true in the case of language and culture instruction. As an English teacher, I understand that my behavior sets an example for my students, and so I strive to present myself in the most professional and culturally-appropriate manner possible. Tucking in my skirt is just one small part of this effort to be the best teacher I can be.
Embracing Personal Values
At the end of the day, tucking in my skirt is something I do not because I have to, but because I choose to. For me, it is a small act of personal value and pride. It reminds me of how important it is to honor and respect cultural differences, and how even small actions can make a big difference. As an English teacher, I'm dedicated to not only teaching my students the language, but also the cultural nuances that make it so rich and complex.
The Importance of Cultural Understanding
Ultimately, my decision to tuck in my skirt is just one piece of the larger puzzle of cultural understanding and respect. As teachers, it is our responsibility to not only pass on knowledge, but to do so with respect for the diverse beliefs and values of our students. By embracing cultural differences and finding ways to bridge gaps, we can create a more inclusive and harmonious society – both in the classroom and beyond.
